About us

The story of OPUS starts as early as December 13th, 1977, when JL Radio was launched by Jákup Lamhauge and his wife Jóngerð Lamhauge. JL Radio was a Radio Shop in Runavík in the Faroe Islands, selling everything from cassette tapes and LP records to stereos, TV, and satellite dishes. They also had agency on Salora TV.

On October 11th, 1988, JL Radio was acquired by Kaj Johannessen and his brother Rósing Johannessen. They had a shop and a workshop in Runavik, and in the late 80’s they opened a shop I Torshavn. This was a short period and the shop closed in the early 90’s.

In 1996, Kaj Johannesen bought his brother out of the company and in 2013 the store in Runavik closed and sales of televisions and stereos ended, but the activity continued with the sale and installation of satellite dishes and common antenna systems as well as service of these.

Opus started by laying fibre for buildings, tunnels and houses, and in connection with the laying of a new water pipeline in the village of Funningur in 2007, fibre was also added to all houses in the settlement. OPUS supplied this fibre solution and therefore Funningur became the first settlement in the Faroe Islands to receive fibre for all houses in the settlement.

On April 8th, 2022, OPUS was acquired by Sp/f EL.FO and Sp/f Sveiggja. Kaj Johannessen is still the director of the company and runs it together with the new owners.

OPUS is still a supplier of common antenna systems to owners’ associations and hotels in the Faroe Islands and is the largest supplier on land of satellite dishes and satellite dish subscriptions to the private market. OPUS is also the largest supplier of fiber for tunnels, ships, and fish farming.

Today, OPUS also supplies internet, network and TV solutions for ships and hotels. OPUS has developed its own TV and streaming solution which can be used on smartphones, tablets, and computers on board ships.

OPUS is headquartered in Æðuvík and Tórshavn.
